Congratulations Max von Sydow  on your Oscar nomination he received the best supporting actor nomination for his role as the mute ‘renter’ in “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close” the film directed by Stephen Daldry . At 82 he has  became one of the oldest Academy Award nominees ever .

I had the pleasure of photographing Max in Los Angeles at the Beverly Hills hotel . I remember getting to the hotel on Wilshere , when Max was having lunch with Charlton Heston and another huge star , I cant remember the name now .  The hotel staff took me to where he was eating and said do you want us to tell him you are here … I declined .

When we finally met I tried my rubbish swedish on him … he appreciated that even more . We spoke about Gotland  and about how beautiful it was there , its  where he had his home ,  it was the first time I had ever heard of the island , he told me I must visit . Since that meeting I have visited Gotland many times , only last month I photographed my first wedding there .
