‘ The north of England, were worst hit by heavy rain yesterday as the storms moved up from Wales and the south-west. Five people died as severe storms battered Britain and hundreds of homes were flooded and major events were cancelled. Some areas had up to 1.5ins (40mm) of rain in 24 hours.
